The Need for Smarter Wastewater Supervision
Industrial wastewater treatment facilities require continuous oversight of water-quality conditions and treatment-process operation. Common challenges include delayed wastewater-network development in industrial parks and the widespread mixing of stormwater and wastewater. Digital monitoring can help treatment-plant operators and supervisory organizations obtain a more systematic view of plant conditions and improve day-to-day management.
Solution Overview
CAIMORE's wastewater treatment plant online monitoring solution combines data acquisition, application visualization, data analysis and intelligent alarm tracking. The installation combines CM550-series wireless data acquisition terminals together with sensors, electrical meters, voltage measurement and flow meters at the treatment site. Field water-quality and equipment-status data is collected and reported for real-time display, analysis, processing and storage.
The monitoring platform supports historical data queries, statistical analysis reports and SMS alarm notifications when configured water-quality measurements become abnormal. This creates an information loop between the treatment site, plant operators and relevant supervisory personnel.
System Architecture
The architecture connects field instrumentation, CM550-series acquisition, communication and the online monitoring platform.
Field Instrumentation and Data Acquisition
Connect field instrumentation including sensors, electrical meters, voltage measurement and flow meters. The platform's data acquisition module is described as communicating with DCS, PLC systems and intelligent instruments.
Monitoring parameters include:
- Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)
- Temperature
- pH
- Flow rate
- Liquid level
- Dissolved oxygen (DO)
- Electrical conductivity
- Total nitrogen (TN)
- Total phosphorus (TP)
CAIMORE CM550 Series Wireless Data Acquisition Terminal
CM550-series terminals collect water-quality and equipment-status information from connected instruments and report it to the monitoring platform.
The CM550 water-industry terminal supports water-sector data acquisition and connection to national, provincial and municipal online monitoring systems. A communication-centre database integration option supports connections to third-party platforms.
Online Monitoring Dashboard
The platform provides a visual overview of wastewater treatment operations and monitoring points. The original dashboard screenshot is retained below.
Data Processing and Trend Analysis
The platform uses database records and Excel formulas to create real-time curves and historical trend curves. It can automatically compile daily reports covering liquid level, flow, equipment operating status, electrical energy, equipment faults and power equipment information. Customized reports can be exported.
Report Scheduling and Quality-Control Configuration
The platform's quality-control configuration function is described as supporting scheduled or periodic delivery of reports, screenshots and text information, including daily, monthly and annual reports.
Intelligent Operation and Maintenance
The system includes an intelligent operation-and-maintenance work-order function that allows users to edit and customize equipment maintenance items and establish maintenance plans.
Alarms and Supervisory Notifications
When configured water-quality parameters are detected outside expected conditions, the platform can trigger warning messages and send SMS notifications to responsible managers and production personnel. Real-time monitoring, warning analysis and operating-condition review help users respond to abnormal conditions and improve supervision efficiency.
Operational Benefits
- Improve visibility into wastewater quality and treatment-site operating conditions.
- Support real-time monitoring of connected process parameters and equipment status.
- Use historical curves and statistical reports to review trends and operating performance.
- Provide configurable report scheduling and export.
- Notify responsible personnel of abnormal monitoring data through SMS alarms.
- Support structured equipment maintenance planning through operation-and-maintenance work orders.
Monitoring and alarm information supports operational supervision. It does not replace statutory wastewater sampling, laboratory testing, environmental compliance procedures or the responsibilities of plant operators and regulators.
