1. Operational Challenge
Reservoir and irrigation districts may contain many small gates distributed across wide areas. When gate stations are remote and numerous, routine inspection and manual operation can be difficult. Operators need timely visibility into gate condition, irrigation flow and channel water level, as well as a reliable way to issue operating commands from a central location.
The remote intelligent gate system supports irrigation automation in reservoir areas. It combines gate control, irrigation-flow monitoring and image / video acquisition so that personnel can review field conditions and operate gates from a monitoring centre or mobile device.
2. System Overview
The system is built around an intelligent gate controller, high-precision gate-position sensing, irrigation-flow measurement, image / video monitoring and surge / lightning protection. Remote data transmission can use fibre, 2G / 3G / 4G cellular networks, radio modems or Ethernet, depending on site conditions.
At the management centre, operators can monitor equipment status, irrigation flow, channel level and field images or video. The system also supports mobile access for receiving equipment information and issuing gate open / close commands.
3. Field Gate Equipment and Monitoring
- Gate operation: open / close control for gate motors rated from 0.37 to 15 kW.
- Gate power configurations: single-phase 200 V and three-phase 380 V gate systems.
- Motor protection: rapid protection against phase loss, motor stall, overcurrent, phase-sequence errors and undervoltage.
- Gate position: real-time position control, stated millimetre-level opening / closing accuracy, and upper / lower travel-limit protection.
- Irrigation measurement: real-time flow measurement and irrigation-channel water-level monitoring.
- Visual monitoring: local image / video capture of gate conditions.
- Optional environmental monitoring: evaporation, air temperature, rainfall, soil moisture, wind speed and wind direction.
4. 4G DTU Communication and System Architecture
Select the transmission method for the site: 4G DTU, fibre, radio modem or Ethernet. The 2019 design also references 2G / 3G cellular options. Confirm the device model, interfaces, protocol and network configuration for the installation.
The architecture separates the irrigation management centre from distributed gate stations. Each station combines a gate controller, position feedback and local monitoring sources with a DTU communication link. The central software and mobile management functions provide status visibility and remote operation.
5. Remote Monitoring Functions
- View gate operating status and gate-position feedback.
- Monitor irrigation flow and channel water level in real time.
- Receive site photographs or video from the gate station.
- Review electrical operating information, including voltage and current, as described in the mobile operation workflow.
- Receive remote equipment-status information and alarm notifications.
6. Remote Gate Operation from Mobile Devices
The system includes a mobile control workflow in which the user selects a gate and chooses an operation. Password confirmation is required before the command is sent, providing a safeguard against accidental operation.
Open and Close Commands
The operator selects a gate, chooses Open Gate or Close Gate and confirms the command with a password. After the operation is completed, the system returns operating information such as voltage, current, channel water level and flow to the mobile device.
Gate-Position Setpoint
The operator can enter a target gate opening. For example, the opening can change from 45 cm to 55 cm, with the gate moving to the requested position when the open command is issued.
Irrigation-Volume Limit
Operators can set a cumulative irrigation-volume limit, for example 2,000 cubic metres. When the measured volume reaches the configured limit, the system automatically closes the gate and reports the closure status to the mobile device.
Video and Status Query
The mobile workflow also includes a command to request live video from a selected gate station and an information query to return current equipment condition, voltage, current, channel level and flow.
7. Central Software and Mobile Interface
The illustrative interface below shows a map-based gate overview, station status and gate controls. It is a conceptual reconstruction, not a screenshot of a current software release.
8. Power Supply for Remote Locations
The system includes 220 V AC power where an electrical supply is available. For remote sites without grid power, it describes off-grid power using solar or wind generation together with a battery bank. The system is described as using a low-power electronic design.
9. Operational Value
- Reduce the need for frequent manual travel to widely distributed gate stations.
- Provide central visibility into gate status, gate position, irrigation flow and channel level.
- Support remote opening, closing and gate-position adjustment.
- Use flow limits to support controlled irrigation-volume delivery and automatic gate closure.
- Provide site images / video to help operators review field conditions.
- Support deployment at off-grid locations through solar / wind and battery power options.
10. Product and Compatibility Notes
Confirm the DTU model, interfaces, protocol, network configuration and mobile-app compatibility for the complete gate-control system.
Android 2.3 and iOS 4 are historical platform references from the 2019 design. Confirm current device availability, carrier compatibility and application support for a new installation.
