Why Groundwater Monitoring Matters
Groundwater is an important source of freshwater and supports both human water supply and ecological systems. Its availability and quality can be affected by changing natural conditions, intensive extraction and pollution. Without regular monitoring, changes in groundwater level and quality may remain difficult to identify in time.
A groundwater monitoring system helps responsible organizations observe resource conditions, review changes over time and identify abnormal readings that may require investigation or protective action.
Monitoring Objectives
- Protect groundwater resources by tracking changes in quantity and quality.
- Provide data to support planning and the responsible use of groundwater.
- Identify abnormal groundwater-level fluctuations and support timely warning and response.
- Support environmental oversight through continuous access to monitoring information.
Solution Overview
CAIMORE's groundwater monitoring solution uses a CM550 water-conservancy remote telemetry terminal to collect and transmit key monitoring information from distributed groundwater monitoring points. The system provides monitoring of groundwater level, water temperature and water-quality parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen and heavy-metal content.
Monitoring data is transmitted through 4G/5G communication to a management platform. Information is shared between field monitoring points, the monitoring centre and a groundwater information centre. Field video images provide additional visual information for operators when reviewing site conditions.
System Architecture
The architecture below connects the monitoring-point sensors, CM550 remote telemetry terminal, 4G/5G communication path, management platform, groundwater information centre, field video and alert channels.
Field Monitoring and Data Acquisition
Monitoring parameters include:
- Groundwater level
- Water temperature
- pH value
- Electrical conductivity
- Dissolved oxygen
- Heavy-metal content
- Field video images for visual reference
CM550 provides remote telemetry for monitoring data. Confirm sensor selection, signal types, interfaces and field wiring for the project.
Wireless Data Transmission
The communication path uses 4G/5G connectivity to transfer monitoring data from field points to the management platform. The system description also refers to information exchange between monitoring points, the monitoring centre and the groundwater information centre.
Groundwater Management Platform
The system includes a water-resources supervision system with a map-based overview and data-analysis functions. The platform presents monitoring information to support an overall view of groundwater-resource management.
Data Analysis and Monitoring Records
The platform is described as collecting real-time information from monitored water-intake points, including pipeline pressure, flow, water level and pump electricity consumption. It supports statistical analysis and combined review of flow and water-level measurements.
Monitoring and Alerts
The system includes threshold-based alarm settings for monitored intake-point and pipeline data, together with monitoring of equipment operating indicators and water-intake volume. Notifications can be delivered through SMS, the platform and a mobile application so that responsible personnel can review abnormal conditions and take action.

Operational Benefits
- Improve visibility into groundwater-level and water-quality changes.
- Provide data to support groundwater planning and resource-management decisions.
- Help identify abnormal readings and support timely notification.
- Combine monitoring data with field images for additional operational context.
- Support coordinated access to monitoring information across relevant management functions.
Monitoring information supports resource management and operational assessment. Alerts should be reviewed alongside field inspection, sampling procedures and the responsible authority's established response process.
